Hazard:  The nozzle can detach from the spray bar which can damage the housing and in some circumstances be ejected posing a laceration hazard to consumers.

Homelite has received nine reports of incidents involving the recalled surface cleaner attachments, including one laceration injury and three reports of minor property damage.

The recalled product is a surface cleaner attachment which attaches to a pressure washer. It was sold with a pressure washer or sold independently as an attachment that can be used with a pressure washer. The surface cleaner attachment can be used with pressure washers manufactured by companies other than Homelite.

Attached to the platform of the surface cleaner attachment are three labels. One identifies the product as a 38 centimetre (15-inch) surface cleaner, one contains various warnings and safety instructions, and the remaining one contains information relating to acceptable usage parameters. These units do not contain any date code, serial number or model number. They are either orange or red in colour and can be further identified by having a hexagonal, brass coloured shaped nozzle and a single interior wall.

These units were sold as a stand alone accessory and in some cases packaged with a gasoline powered pressure washer. They were sold under the Homelite, EZ Clean and Powercare brand names and are identified below:

 Approximately 1200 of the recalled surface cleaner attachments were sold in Canada, exclusively by Home Depot Canada, Inc.

Remedy:  Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled surface cleaner attachment and contact Homelite to receive a free replacement surface cleaner attachment. Homelite will contact those customers who have registered their purchase of an affected surface cleaner attachment.

Remedy:  Consumers should immediately contact the appropriate company to receive a replacement or retrofit, depending on their make and model. Except for kiddie pools, wading pools and in-ground spas, retrofit or replacement of installed covers are not required in pools with multiple drain systems or gravity drainage systems or for covers installed before December 19, 2008.

Hazard:  Shoppers Drug Mart / Pharmaprix is voluntarily recalling one lot of this product as a precautionary measure due to the potential for microbial contamination. The affected lot may be contaminated with a strain of bacteria called Burkholderia cepacia. This bacterium may result in serious illness for certain individuals with compromised immune systems or chronic lung issues, such as cystic fibrosis.


Remedy:  Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and return it to any Shoppers Drug Mart or Pharmaprix store for a refund or gift card.

Hazard:  The recalled products have not been evaluated and are not certified to Canadian standards, and may pose a safety hazard to consumers.
This recall involves PowerLine® Inverters that can be identified as follows:
  • Power Line 0900-90 (200 Watt): an inverter with 2 AC outlets and 1 USB power port which allow users to power 2 household devices and one USB powered device from their vehicle power socket. The device is black and can be identified by the UPC 027005900906.


  • Power Line 0900-93 (140 Watt): an inverter with 1 AC outlet and USB power port which allow users to power a household device and a USB powered device from their vehicle power socket. The device is black and can be identified by the UPC 027005900937.


  • Power Line 0900-88 (75 Watt): an inverter with 1 AC outlet which allows user to power their household device from their vehicle power socket. The device is black and can be identified by the UPC 027005900883.
Approximately 37,173 units of the unapproved products were sold exclusively at Wal-Mart Corporation across Canada.

Remedy:  Consumers should immediately unplug and stop using the product and return the unapproved product to Wal-Mart for a refund.

Hazard:  The recalled products may be affected by a manufacturing defect which causes long flames to come out of the rear burner during ignition of the barbecues.

In cooperation with Health Canada, RONA is voluntarily recalling these barbecues.
This recall involves DURO propane gas barbecues model text 720-0584A and serial number beginning by 720xxJB0584A and followed by seven characters specific to the barbecue.

Remedy:  Customers who have these products in their possession should immediately stop using them and return them to Réno-Dépôt or RONA stores or call the customer service centre at 1-866-283-2239 toll-free for further information.

Hazard: A component in the dehumidifier's compressor can short circuit, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

Midea and GE have received a total of 14 reports of incidents involving smoke and fumes emitting from the unit and eight reports of fires. In six of the reported fire incidents, property damage extended beyond the unit. No injuries have been reported.

This recall involves 30-pint and 40-pint portable dehumidifiers manufactured between November 2006 and August 2007, and during April 2008. The dehumidifiers are white with a front-loading water bucket. "GE" or "Professional Series" and digital controls are located on top of the dehumidifier. Model and serial numbers are located on the back of the dehumidifiers.

Consumers with the affected dehumidifier will be instructed on how to return their product to an authorized service center for a free repair. Consumers should not return the recalled dehumidifiers to the place of purchase.

Hazard:  The amplifier in the subwoofer can overheat when the speaker system is played at high outputs for an extended period of time, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

The firm has received two reports of subwoofers in the United States overheating; one subwoofer caught fire and the other subwoofer emitted smoke. No injuries have been reported.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these subwoofers.

Hazard:  Petzl has identified at least one energy absorbing system for each type of lanyard that appears to be missing one of the safety stitches on the attachment loop, which can cause the lanyard to disconnect from the climbing harness, posing a fall hazard to consumers.

There has been one report in France of the product failing due to the absence of a safety stitch, causing a fall and multiple fractures.

These recalled products are energy absorbing lanyards designed to be used in conjunction with a climbing harness to create a fall protection system.

Hazard:  The heating element on these toasters can remain energized indefinitely when an item is placed in the toaster which may ignite the contents, posing a fire hazard if the toaster is placed near flammable items.
This recall involves Hamilton Beach® classic chrome 2-slice toasters. The toasters have a chromed steel exterior, a front control panel with a rotary toast shade selector and function buttons arranged in an arc, a front removable crumb tray and Hamilton Beach® is printed across the front of the toaster.

Only Hamilton Beach toasters with specific series codes under model 22600 are included in this recall. The model number and series code are printed on the bottom of the toaster.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled toaster and contact Hamilton Beach to receive instructions on how to obtain a free replacement toaster.

Hazard:  The motor in the air exchangers can overheat, posing a fire hazard.

Venmar Ventilation Inc. has received nine reports of overheating incidents resulting in fires and property damage in Canada.

This Safety Upgrade Program involves air exchangers sold under different brands that are used to circulate air in and out of the home. The metal air exchangers are painted blue or grey. Air exchangers included in the Program were manufactured from 1983 through 2001 and have brand and model information printed on the unit's rating plate or on the side of the unit.

Venmar believes that approximately 40,000 of the affected air exchangers are still in operation today. These were sold at retail hardware stores and selected Heating, Ventilating & Air Conditioning wholesale distributors across Canada.
Remedy:  The Consumers should turn off the affected unit and contact Venmar Ventilation Inc. as soon as possible. Venmar Ventilation Inc. will dispatch a field technician who will inspect and retrofit the affected units free of charge.

Hazard: The strollers brake may produce an audible click when initially engaged and the brake pedal may remain depressed even though the brake has not fully engaged or locked. It may be necessary to continue to depress the brake pedal beyond the moment of the audible click to achieve full brake function. The initial click may create the false impression with the consumer that the brake is engaged.

Britax B-Nimble stroller is a single seat umbrella stroller and has the following product codes:
  • U311771 (red)
  • U311773 (green)
  • U311775 (cowmooflage)
  • U311780 (silver-black).
The name "Britax" can be found on the front. On the stroller frame, near the storage basket, there should be a white label on each side of the stroller with the stroller model numbers, batch numbers and date of manufacture.
Remedy:  Consumers should immediately contact Britax to receive a free replacement stroller. Until the new replacement stroller is received, Britax recommends the continued use of the stroller but advises consumers to verify that the pedal is completely depressed and confirm that the brake is fully engaged, regardless of the audible click, every time the brake system is used.

Hazard:  If the stroller is not fully opened or closed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, the hinge mechanism can pose a risk of fingertip amputation and laceration to the child. When used according the manufacturer's instructions, the strollers are safe and comply with Canadian stroller regulations. In Canada, approximately 22 000 of the recalled strollers were sold at The Bay, Toys R Us (Babies R Us), and other retailers.

An unknown number were also sold at Gap Canada Stores.


Remedy:  Consumers should use caution when opening or closing the stroller and ensure that children are at a safe distance when doing so. Consumers are instructed to contact American Baby Products, Inc. (formerly Maclaren USA) to receive a free repair kit.

Weller 100 watt soldering irons

Hazard:  The electrical cord attached to the iron can detach from the flex point at the base of the handle. If the electrical cord fails while the product is in use and the cord is touching the user's skin, it could produce an electrical arc that could cause a burn.

There have been three reported injuries, all of which were superficial burns to the hand, none requiring medical attention. Two of the reported injuries occurred in the United States of America and one in Canada.

This recall involves Weller 100 watt and 120 volt soldering irons with model numbers W100PG, W100PGMX, W100P3 and W100PD3. The date codes are from July 2006 to May 2010. The date code is located on the heating element and is shown as MONTH YEAR (e.g. June 08).

Remedy: Consumers should contact Cooper Tools, LLC immediately for a free replacement soldering iron.
