 GE Zoneline® Air Conditioners and Heaters Recalled
Hazard:  An electrical component in the heating system can fail, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

General Electric and Sharp have received a total of four reports of incidents involving smoke and/or fire with the air conditioning and heating units, one of which occurred in Canada. In two of the reported incidents, fire extended beyond the air conditioning and heating unit, resulting in property damage. However, no injuries have been reported.
This recall involves GE Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners ("PTACs") and packaged terminal heat pumps manufactured between approximately January 2010 and March 2011. The product is most often used in apartment buildings and commercial space.

The GE logo is affixed to the control panel door. Serial and model numbers are printed on the rating plate. Consumers will need to remove the front panel to locate the rating plate.

 Approximately 3,600 of the affected heating units were sold through Williams and authorized representatives, HVAC distributor installers, and contractors across Canada.
Remedy:   Consumers should immediately stop using the air conditioning and heating units in the heat mode and contact Williams corporation to schedule a free repair. Consumers should confirm whether they have one of the impacted units by checking the model number, as well as matching both the model number and serial numbers provided.

Hazard:  The wires inside the sewing machine can short circuit. This may pose a risk of fire.

Janome Canada Ltd. has received one report of a sewing machine catching fire. No injuries or property damage have been reported.


This recall involves the Elna eXcellence 740 sewing machine. The machine is white and navy with a digital touch panel. "Elna" and "eXcellence 740" are printed on the front of the machine.

Affected machines have the following serial numbers located on the machine beside "NO" as depicted in the attached photograph.

Approximately 112 units of the affected sewing machines were sold at Elna sewing machine dealers across Canada. 


Remedy:  Consumers should immediately stop using the sewing machine and unplug it from its power source. Take the sewing machine to the Elna authorized dealer where it was purchased for a free repair/update.

Hazard:  The handle can detach from the shaker, exposing a rough edge and posing a laceration hazard. The detached handle also exposes small steel pellets and a plastic plug which pose choking hazards.

The company received one report from a consumer that the handle on two Gripper Shakers detached. No injuries have been reported.


Remedy:  Consumers should immediately take the recalled shakers away from children and contact Woodstock Percussion Inc. to receive information on returning the product for a $7 refund.

Hazard:  The main rotor blades and main rotor grips can release from the main rotor head while in use. This poses an impact or laceration hazard to the user or persons nearby.

Horizon Hobby has received 337 reports of the rotor blades releasing from the rotor head, including 34 reports of a blade striking a user. This has resulted in 16 laceration injuries.

This recall involves "Blade"-brand ultra-micro indoor/outdoor model helicopters that have red and blue canopies. The name "Blade mCP X" is printed on both sides of the canopy. The following model numbers are included in this recall; the model number is printed on the underside of the product packaging, along with the UPC.

Hazard:  The plastic release buckle on the helmet that connects the chin straps can separate and cause the helmet to eject from the user's head. This can pose a risk of serious injury or death to the user.

There has been one report of the helmet ejecting off of the head, causing a laceration under the eye that required stitches.

Approximately 2,500 units of the recalled helmets were sold at Wal-Mart and Mountain Equipment Co-op stores across Canada.

Hazard:  The recalled lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

Since the June 2010 recall expansion, Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Co. has received 5 additional reports in Canada of overheated batteries that ruptured, resulting in flames/fire and 3 instances of minor property damage with no reported injuries. To date, there have been a total of 15 reports from Canada.

In the United States, Hewlett-Packard Company has received a total of 92 reports of batteries overheating and rupturing. This has resulted in 23 instances of minor personal injury and 80 instances of minor property damage.

This recall involves lithium-ion rechargeable batteries that are used with various HP (Hewlett-Packard) and Compaq notebook computers. Recalled batteries will be in one of the following notebook computer models and must have one of the battery bar code labels in the table shown below. If your original battery has not been replaced, it is important to validate your battery, even if validated previously.

The notebook model number can be found at the top of a service label, on the bottom of the computer. The bar code label can be found on the battery after it is removed from the notebook computer.

Notebook computers that could contain a recalled battery can be identified by the following model numbers and bar codes. Not all batteries matching the bar codes are being recalled.

Since the June 2010 recall expansion, one new model number and several new battery bar codes have been added to this recall. These new additions are shown in red in the following table.

Remedy:  Consumers should immediately check their notebook model and batteries.

Batteries that are included in this recall should immediately be removed from the notebook computer. Consumers should contact HP to confirm whether their battery is included in the recall, even if the battery was previously checked.

Consumers with recalled batteries will receive a free replacement battery.

After removing the recalled battery, the AC adaptor can be used to power the notebook computer until a replacement battery arrives. Consumers should only use batteries obtained from HP or an authorized reseller.

Hazard: The recalled bathrobes do not meet the design and flammability requirements for children's sleepwear under Canadian law.

Children's sleepwear that is loose fitting or that has loose edges can contact ignition sources such as stove elements, candles, and matches more easily than tight-fitting sleepwear. Once ignited the sleepwear can burn rapidly and cause severe burns to large areas of the child's body, resulting in shock and sometimes death.

Approximately 1,200 units of the recalled bathrobes were sold at children's specialty stores across Canada. 


Remedy:  Consumers should immediately take the recalled sleepwear away from children and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
